Pastel Wedding Flowers at The Merrion Hotel, Dublin
Jenny and Moe’s wedding at The Merrion Hotel in Dublin was filled with soft colour, delicate garden-style flowers and a relaxed, romantic feel.
The palette was centred around cream and soft pastel tones, with blush pink, pale yellow, lilac-blue and gentle peach running throughout the designs. The idea was to create something elegant enough for the beautiful surroundings of The Merrion, while still keeping the flowers natural, airy and full of movement.
For Jenny’s bridal bouquet, I created a petite, garden-style design with blush roses, soft peonies, sweet peas, poppies, little daisies and other delicate seasonal flowers. Rather than making the bouquet feel too neat or formal, I wanted it to have a slightly loose and effortless finish.
Some of the flowers were locally grown here in County Laois by Tara’s Meadow Flowers. I incorporated Tara’s sweet peas, poppies and smaller seasonal stems to give the bouquet a slightly wilder look. Those locally grown flowers brought beautiful movement, texture and little unexpected touches of colour, which worked perfectly with the soft pastel palette.
The bridesmaids carried smaller coordinating bouquets, designed to complement Jenny’s flowers rather than simply copy them. Soft yellow tones were introduced a little more strongly through their bouquets, while still keeping everything connected to the overall wedding palette.
The Ceremony Flowers
One of the main features of the ceremony was the fireplace at The Merrion Hotel.
I created three separate floral arrangements, styled together across the mantel to give the appearance of one larger statement installation. Soft greenery flowed between the flowers to create movement and keep the design feeling natural rather than overly structured.
At the base of the fireplace, a collection of candles at different heights added warmth and softness to the setting. Against the elegant interiors of The Merrion, the combination of candlelight, greenery and pastel flowers created a really romantic focal point for the ceremony.
The arrangements were also designed with reuse in mind. After the ceremony, the flowers could be moved into the dining area and enjoyed again during the reception. Whenever possible, I like to design wedding flowers so they can work in more than one part of the day — it allows couples to make the most of their florals while keeping the overall styling connected from ceremony through to dinner.
The finished look was soft, romantic and elegant, but with just enough of a wild, garden-inspired feel to keep it natural. The locally grown flowers were a lovely part of that, bringing another layer of texture and individuality to the designs.
It was such a beautiful summer wedding to flower, and The Merrion provided the perfect backdrop for this soft pastel palette.
